Two Sprouts donates Holiday cards to deployed soldiers

New Orleans, November 21, 2008—Two Sprouts has been around the block for a holiday or two. And with that, the stationery and invitation company unveils new designs each year. The Two Sprouts have often wondered what to do with the remainder of the cards from a previous year.

How far in advance should invitations be extended for a more informal party?
Two weeks is really a good gauge. You can get by on one week only if you’re in a small town and have limited social engagements. Three weeks is preferable in a big city, which leads to busy social calendars.

What about showers? How far in advance?
Same rule. Two to three weeks is the right time to send out. You don’t want to send out too early as the recipient may forget about the event. On the other hand, don’t wait too long as social calendars book up fast!

How do I list hosts for a party such as bridesmaids throwing a shower?
Remember your ABC’s. You got it, alphabetically. If the party is at someone’s home, you would list that hostess first.

How should I write out the date and time on an invitation?
For a casual invitation, children’s birthdays etc, you can go with a standard time abbreviation and the date in plain English.
2:00 – 4:00 Saturday, April 5.

For a more formal invitation, brevity is not key.
Two o’clock in the afternoon. Saturday the fifth of April.

No need to include the year, unless it is a New Year’s party, or that you would like to keep the invitation as a memory with the year of the wedding included.

Should I include RSVP on my invitations?
This is entirely up to you. Most people don’t regret, so if you’re using this for a headcount, probably not the best gauge. However, it is good to have a telephone number on the invitation if any questions arise as far as directions etc.

Birth Announcements

What information should be on a birth announcement?
Basic information that you’d like to share: The baby’s full name, nickname in quotations underneath, date of birth, time of birth, weight, parent’s names (mother’s name first). This is not the place for a gift registry.

When should the announcements be sent out and when is the latest that it can be sent out?
The sooner, the better. Everyone will be eager to know the specifics of the newest arrival. Ideally, you’d have the envelopes addressed, stamped and ready to go before the baby is born. There may not be much time for correspondence once your wee one arrives. Having the birth announcements picked out and just needing to fill out a few details takes the stress off of this at a time when sleep is at a premium. Of course, the first couple of months can be hectic, so as long as they are sent by the time the baby is 5 or 6 months old, it is still considered acceptable.

What is the best wording to use for an adopted child?
Adoption announcements are always so special. Try this wording on for size: We’re happy to announce that a beautiful little girl has joined our family, Katja Margaret Ashton, born on January 5, 2005 and welcomed into our hearts and our home on May 16, 2006.

Holiday

Can we have our name pre-printed or do we have to sign each card?
It’s always a nice touch to sign your holiday cards, but it’s not necessary. If you have the time to personalize, there is no need to write a novel or even refer to names, just a little note with a nice sentiment such as “Cheers to you this holiday season! Love, the Mitternights.”

When should I plan to mail out my holiday cards?
No earlier than Thanksgiving and no later than New Year’s.

Are notes expected for holiday gifts?
A good rule of thumb: if presents are exchanged with someone, you can skip the thank you note, as it is understood that the gifts were exchanged in person. If great aunt Shirley gave you a gift and you usually do not give one in a return, a little note will make her day. A note is not always expected, but brings joy to someone’s day. Bad manners are rampant these days and a thank you note can be one step to combat this.
